AERO.LABS: It's all about those nifty flying electrons.

 LIPO SAFETY

Lithium ION batteriesI ran across this and it mirrors my sentiments about Lithium Polymer batteries exactly. I began using Li-ION batteries heavily when the li-power was just being discovered for electric flight, and still never had a single mishap.

"I just read the AMA li-Po advisory, and it's basically the same thing that all the battery vendors make you read before they'll sell you batteries. It's the natural result of the "C.Y.A." Syndrome caused by a litigation-crazed populace that refuses to take the "blame" for anything they use or touch. I would venture to say that more people die by stomach stapling (1 in 300) than are hurt by Li-po charging accidents.

What they seldom mention is that a lot of the fires are caused by people charging Lithium-ION batteries, usually using either an inproper charger, or trying to fry the little buggers by charging at a high-C rate. While it is possible to have fires and other accidents, a little common sense and the PROPER use of the CORRECT chargers, and by following the guidelines, and INSTRUCTIONS supplied with the charger, most accidents can and will be avoided.

Follow the directions, and recomondations for your Lithium Polymer Batteries, and have a great time flying!!!

One other thing you might want to think about, when was the last time you heard of someone's cell phone, laptop, or Ipod bursting into flames when it's being charged? They all have the same type of batteries in them, that we are shoving into our model aircraft.
